Michael Sawiel, a Central Oregon native, discovered skiing through a middle school program and quickly developed a lifelong passion. He splits his time between resort slopes and the backcountry. After leaving a traditional office job, he spent seven seasons as a lift operator at Mt. Bachelor. In the summer months, you’ll find him exploring the rugged mountains and trails of the northern Cascades, covering miles on patrol and engaging in educational outreach along the way.
